Scholarship Opportunities

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to students. To apply for a scholarship, complete the General Scholarship Application and include the name of the scholarship(s) for which you’d like to be considered from the options below.

General Scholarship Application (PDF)

Once completed, submit your General Scholarship Application and Student Essay to the Scholarship Committee.

In addition to the General Scholarship Application and Student Essay, Parents are required to fill out a FACTS Grant and Aid application for the each new school year. The FACTS Grant and Aid application opens November 1, 2021 and ALL documents must be uploaded to FACTS no later than April 15, 2022. An application is considered complete when FACTS Grant and Aid has received the application and all supporting documentation required for evaluation. Below is the link to fill out a FACTS application form.

Please Note: Generally, the documents needed for uploading is your 2020 W-2 and your 2020 Tax return. If you are self-employed other documents may be required from FACTS.

HIDDEN: Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians Catholic Educational Scholarship

Hibernians
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians is a national organization and sisterhood of Irish and Irish-American, Catholic Women. Their motto is “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.” The Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Inc. of St. Theresa’s Parish believe deeply in the value of a Catholic education and strive to support parents who are investing in their children’s future by sending them to a Catholic High School. We are pleased to announce the establishment of a new scholarship to assist families with some of the expenses associated with attending Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. The Ladies would like to offer a $1000 scholarship toward tuition for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School students.

Requirements:

  1. The scholarship will be earmarked for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School tuition
  2. Applicants must be an incoming 9th grade student, a new transfer student, or a currently enrolled 9th, 10th or 11th grade student at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School
  3. Applicants must be of Irish descent and Catholic
  4. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  5. Essays will be judged based on merit, and the scholarship will be awarded accordingly
  6. The topic of the essay is “Discuss the contributions of Irish immigrants toward the development of the United States of America.” (Typed, between 300-800 words)

Deadline for submission is February 28, 2020. Recipient will be announced March 18, 2020.

Hibernian Scholarship Application

The deadline to apply for the following school year is February 28th.

The Test Topper Scholarship

(Highest High School Placement Test Score)

One incoming Freshman student with the highest overall test score on the High School Placement Test is awarded this scholarship opportunity for $1000.00 toward each year’s tuition at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. Student must maintain a 3.5 GPA and remain in good disciplinary standing throughout all four years at Bishop McLaughlin. Applicants for the Test Topper Scholarship MUST take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School, on the FIRST DATE the TEST is OFFERED in November of each year, in order to be eligible.

Guidelines:
1. Student must have a BMCHS Admissions Application on file to be eligible.
2. Highest Score on the first HSPT offered in November, taken at BMCHS, will receive scholarship.

In the event of a tie, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School will use the applicants’ final Middle School GPA to determine that year’s recipient.

The Hurricane Scholarship

(All-Around Freshman Student)

One incoming Freshman student is awarded this scholarship opportunity for $1000.00 toward each year’s tuition at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. The student must demonstrate financial need, maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain in good disciplinary standing throughout all four years at Bishop McLaughlin.

Guidelines –

  1. Three page essay on the most influential person in your life who has strengthened your faith.
  2. Two teacher or personal recommendations, based on academics, work ethic, and character.
         (Recommendations are in addition to admissions application recommendations.)
  3. Listing of extracurricular activities and awards.
         (Community service, teams, hobbies, music, parish involvement, etc.)
  4. Student must have a BMCHS Admissions Application on file to be eligible.

The deadline to apply for the upcoming school year is April 30 of your 8th grade year.

The Alessandra Augello Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established to create a lasting legacy in loving memory of BMCHS student Alessandra Augello. This partial scholarship is awarded annually to a student in his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students involved in the performing or visual arts or journalism programs at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. Awardees must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

HIDDEN: The Prada Family Leadership Scholarship

Prada Family Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is based on demonstrated leadership skills and financial need. Applicants must demonstrate leadership through participation in school extra-curricular activities. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need, and who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and have a good disciplinary record.

The deadline to apply for the upcoming school year is April 30 of the previous year.

HIDDEN: Musca Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is based on availability and financial need. Applicants should demonstrate a strong Catholic foundation or commitment to Catholic education and values. A personal interview may be required as part of the application process.

John M. Parcelewicz Memorial Scholarship

The Knights of Columbus, Council 13525, believes deeply in the value of a Catholic education and strives to support parents who are investing in their children’s future by sending them to Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. They are pleased to announce the establishment of the John M. Parcelewicz Memorial Scholarship to assist families with some of the expenses associated with attending Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. John M. Parcelewicz was a valued member of Council 13525, a 4th Degree Knight, a retired Air force Colonel and an active volunteer at the James A. Haley VA Hospital and at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. His Brother Knights would like to honor him by offering a $500 scholarship for a Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School student in his name.

  1. The $500 grant will be earmarked toward the purchase of textbooks.
  2. Applicants must be a registered member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Lutz, FL.
  3. Applicants must be an incoming 9th grade student, a new transfer student, or a currently enrolled 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School.
  4. Essays will be judged based on merit, and the scholarship will be awarded accordingly.

The deadline to apply is April 29th of each school year.

HIDDEN: St. Thomas Aquinas Knights of Columbus Catholic Educational Book Scholarship

The Knights of Columbus Council 11497 believes deeply in the value of a Catholic education and strives to support parents who are investing in their children’s future by sending them to a Catholic High School. We are pleased to announce the establishment of a new scholarship to assist families with some of the expenses associated with attending Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. The Knights would like to offer two $250 scholarship awards toward textbooks for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School students.

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be a registered member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey, FL.
  2. Applicants must be an incoming 9th grade student, a new transfer student, or a currently enrolled 9th, 10th or 11th grade student at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School.
  3. Essays will be judged based on merit, and the scholarship will be awarded accordingly.
  4. Essays must include the Student’s name and parental contact information.
  5. The topic for this year is “Why a Catholic education is important to me.” (Typed, between 300-800 words, 12 point Calibri or Garamond font).

St. Vincent de Paul Memorial Scholarship

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Hernando/Citrus District is happy to offer a $1000 scholarship to young Catholic students wishing to attend Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School for the upcoming school year. Scholarships are awarded to promote Catholic social teaching and awareness of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s mission for the poor.

Requirements are:

  • Must be a 9th, 10th, or 11th grade Bishop McLaughlin student or a rising 8th grade student from Notre Dame Catholic School who will be attending Bishop McLaughlin for the upcoming school year.
  • Reside in Hernando County or within one of the seven parish boundaries that are part of the Hernando/Citrus District
  • Must show financial need
  • Must maintain a 3.2 GPA
  • Must submit 500 word essay (listed on app.) & submit Community Service information

The deadline to apply is May 14th of each school year.

HIDDEN: COVID-19 Impact Scholarship

COVID-19 Impact Fund

The Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School COVID-19 Impact Fund has been created to assist Bishop McLaughlin families who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our families have been furloughed or fired as a result of Stay-at-Home Directives. Those families are worried they will not be able to send their children back to Bishop McLaughlin for the 2020-2021 school year.

If you are a currently enrolled family at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School that has been impacted by COVID-19 with loss of job or furlough, you are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Complete the application and submit all paperwork to Beth Sylvester, Director of Marketing & Advancement.

COVID-19 Impact Scholarship Application

HIDDEN: Navy & Gold Scholarship

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School believes deeply in the value of a Catholic education and strives to support parents who are investing in their child’s future by sending them to a Catholic High School. We are pleased to announce the establishment of a merit-based scholarship to assist families with some of the expenses associated with attending Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. Applications for the Navy & Gold Scholarship will be based on academic or co-curricular leadership as determined by the scholarship committee. The application process also includes a written essay. All students who meet qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • The scholarship is earmarked for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School tuition assistance.
  • This scholarship is open to all enrolled Bishop McLaughlin students.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and abide by Bishop McLaughlin Student Code of Conduct while enrolled at Bishop McLaughlin.
  • For the student essay, please describe how you have shown leadership in your academic or co-curricular experiences to further the Catholic foundations of Charity, Faith and Community. Include your name and grade for the upcoming school year, and the date of application (Essay will be on a separate sheet, typed, and between 300-800 words).
  • Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or employer to whom they are not related.
  • Applications will be reviewed based on merit.
  • This scholarship will have two selection and disbursement periods: Fall and Spring of each academic year.
  • Students who apply for the Fall application period, but are not selected, will automatically be reconsidered for the Spring Award.
  • Students selected for a Fall Award cannot reapply for the Spring Award, but may reapply for the following academic year.
