Placement Tests

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is required for students applying to enter grade 9 at Bishop. Results help the Admissions Review Board make admissions decisions, determine placement, and award scholarships.

2027–2028 test dates

First test: Saturday, November 7, 2026
Make-up test: Saturday, January 23, 2027

Test fee

Your student’s first HSPT is free when the Bishop admissions application is completed by October 31, 2026. For applications completed after that date, the test fee is $50, payable at check-in by credit or debit card before testing begins.

Test Topper Scholarship

The Test Topper Scholarship is awarded to the incoming freshman with the highest HSPT score and provides $2,000 annually toward Bishop tuition—a total of $8,000 over four years. Students must take the HSPT at Bishop on November 7, 2026 to qualify. Students testing on the January make-up date are not eligible.

Recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA and good disciplinary standing throughout all four years. Eligible admissions applicants are considered automatically; no separate scholarship application is required.

Check-in: 8:30 a.m.
Testing begins: 9 a.m. Late arrivals cannot be admitted once testing begins.
Testing ends: 12:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m. for students with approved extended time.
Optional items: Two #2 pencils, a drink with a no-drip spout, a small snack, and a book.

Extended-time accommodations

Please send your student’s IEP, 504, or SSP to admissions@bmchs.com before test day. Documents provided on test day do not guarantee accommodations.

Preparing for test day

Students must be signed in and out by a parent or responsible adult.

During the test, phones must be turned off and placed in the phone caddy inside each classroom. Proctors will offer breaks between sections.

Tips for helping your child feel more comfortable on the day:
• Make sure your child gets a restful night’s sleep.
• Make sure your child has a healthy breakfast in the morning.

Payment reminder: If a test fee applies, please bring a credit or debit card. Payment is due at check-in before testing begins.

Students requesting a higher-level math and/or Spanish class must take the Course Placement Test. This is separate from the HSPT.

Test date and registration details will be announced. These tests are offered once. If a student cannot attend, the Director of Guidance will determine their placement.
